About

Running a giveaway? This YouTube comment picker loads a video's comments and draws as many random winners as you ask for, each with a link to their channel and to the winning comment. Try https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jNQXAC9IVRw. It reads about the first 300 top-level comments in YouTube's default order, so on a video with thousands of comments the draw does not cover every entrant.

How to use

Paste the video link or ID, press Run and wait while the comments load. The panel shows how many were read, the video's total, and how many are in the draw. Set the number of winners (1 to 100), add a keyword the comment must contain if your rules need one, and leave one entry per user ticked, which is the default. Press the draw button for winners; press it again to re-draw from the same loaded comments.

What the 300-comment ceiling means for a giveaway

Comments load in YouTube's default order, which puts top comments first, and loading stops at about 300 top-level comments. Under that size, the draw is close to complete. With several thousand comments, people further down never reach the pool, so say so in your rules or narrow entry with a required keyword.

Filtering out duplicates and off-rule entries

With one entry per user ticked, entries are grouped by the commenter's channel, so someone who posted ten times has the same chance as someone who posted once. The keyword filter suits rules like name your favourite episode: pick a word every valid entry must contain and the rest drop out. Both filters work together, and the in-draw count follows them.

Before announcing the winner

Every winner has a view comment link that opens YouTube scrolled to that exact comment, useful for a screenshot. Clicking the winner's name opens their channel, where you can see whether the account was created yesterday. Comments are read on the server, and a video with comments turned off returns a clear message instead of an empty draw.

FAQ

Is the YouTube comment picker actually random?

The draw runs in your browser using crypto.getRandomValues, a cryptographic random source. Each winner is removed from the pool as it is drawn, so one comment cannot win twice.

Are replies to comments included in the draw?

No. Only top-level comments are read. A giveaway that asks people to reply under a pinned comment is not a good fit for this tool.

Can I pick a winner only from comments with a certain word?

Yes. Type the word into the keyword box. Matching ignores case, only comments containing it enter the pool, and the entry count updates as you type.

Why are the newest comments missing?

The comment list is cached on the server for ten minutes, and only about the first 300 are read. After your giveaway closes, wait ten minutes before the final run.
