About
This YouTube tag extractor reads the keywords an uploader entered in YouTube Studio. The watch page hides them from viewers, but its source still carries them. Paste a link such as https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQw4w9WgXcQ and the tags come back ready to copy. You learn what the uploader typed, and nothing about whether those words helped anyone find the video.
How to use
Paste a watch, youtu.be, Shorts, embed or live URL, or only the 11-character video ID, then press Run. Above the tag chips you get the tag count and a running total out of 500 characters. One copy button joins the tags with commas for pasting into another tag box; the other puts one tag per line for a spreadsheet. When the uploader left the field blank, the panel says the video has no tags.
Where hidden tags live
Viewers never see tags on the watch page, yet the player data embedded in that page keeps a keywords list. That list is what gets read here, the same text you would find with view-source and a search. No tags are generated or guessed. If an uploader set four, you get four.
How the character total is counted
Studio caps the tag box at 500 characters and counts more than letters. Each comma between neighbouring tags takes one character, and a tag containing a space is measured with its two quotation marks added. The number on this page follows those rules, so a set showing 480/500 fits if you paste it into your own upload and a set showing 530 gets cut.
Borrowing a competitor's tags
Pull the tags from three or four videos on the topic you are targeting and look for words that repeat across them. Single-channel lists often carry the channel's own name, typos and trending terms unrelated to the video, and copying them wholesale imports all of that. Once the list is trimmed, the YouTube tag generator on this site can suggest more candidates from a seed keyword.
When a lookup comes back with an error
The request runs on the CheckKit server, which opens the public watch page as a signed-out visitor. YouTube sometimes answers a datacenter address with a bot check instead of the page. If the site has a YouTube Data API v3 key configured, the server switches to the official API; without one you are asked to retry later. Private and deleted videos come back as not found. Repeat lookups of one video within ten minutes return a cached copy, so a tag edit made a moment ago may not show yet.
FAQ
How do I see the tags on a YouTube video?
Paste its link here and press Run. The tags appear as a list with two copy buttons. Doing it by hand means opening the page source, searching for the keywords field and cleaning up the quotes yourself.
Why does a video show no tags at all?
Because the uploader never added any. Plenty of channels leave the field empty and put their keywords in the title and description. The tool reads the field directly, so an empty answer is the real state rather than a failed lookup.
Do tags with spaces use more of the 500 limit?
Yes. Studio counts a multi-word tag as if it were wrapped in quotation marks, and counts the comma between tags too. The total shown here includes both.
Can I pull tags from a YouTube Short?
Yes. Paste the /shorts/ link or its ID. The tool takes the video ID out of the URL and reads it like any other upload.
