About

Type or paste a title and the counter tells you how many of YouTube's 100 characters it uses and how many are left. A bar under the box turns orange past 70 characters and red past 100. Below it, the same title appears in four capitalizations, each with its own copy button, which makes the page a title capitalizer as well. The checks run in your browser as you type and nothing is sent anywhere.

How to use

Paste the title, for example how to make sourdough bread at home, into the box. Read the count and the bar. If a warning appears, shorten the title or remove the character it names. Then pick the capitalization you want from the four versions and press Copy beside it.

100 is the limit, 70 is what shows

YouTube will not save a title longer than 100 characters. Long before that, the title gets shortened with an ellipsis in search results and in the suggested videos column, usually somewhere past 70 characters depending on the screen and where the title appears. Put the words that decide the click at the front, and treat anything after about 70 as detail a viewer can do without.

Characters YouTube refuses

The angle brackets < and > are not allowed in YouTube titles, and Studio rejects a title that contains them. A title pasted from a spreadsheet or an HTML template sometimes carries one without anyone noticing, so the checker flags either character the moment it appears.

How Title Case is decided

Title Case capitalizes every word except short connecting words such as a, an, the, and, of, in, on, to, for, with and vs, which stay lowercase unless they are the first or last word. Sentence case capitalizes only the first letter of each sentence. Both conversions leave alone any word with a capital after its first letter, so iPhone, YouTube and USA come through as typed. The exception is a title typed entirely in capitals: there is no way to tell the acronyms apart, every word gets rewritten, and those words need fixing by hand after you copy.

When all caps is worth it

The UPPERCASE and lowercase versions are there for channels that use them on purpose, such as a series name or a single word of emphasis. A title written entirely in capitals is harder to scan in a list of results, and capital letters are wider, so the same number of characters tends to hit the truncation point sooner.

FAQ

How many characters can a YouTube title be?

100 characters. The counter here turns red and warns you as soon as a title goes past it.

How long should a YouTube title be so it is not cut off?

Keep the important words within the first 70 or so characters. Titles are usually truncated somewhere beyond that in search and suggestions.

Why can't I save my YouTube title?

Either it is over 100 characters or it contains < or >. The checker flags both.

Which words stay lowercase in Title Case?

Short articles, conjunctions and prepositions such as a, the, and, of, to and with, unless one of them opens or closes the title.
